Kings of War

A week ago I've played Kings of War for a very first time. The game was quite fast. I had chosen Undead Army. My enemy has played with Dwarves. Marek has printed old army lists so revenants and revenant cavalry hit on 5+ and there was minor stats changest to heroes. We downloaded new heroes for undead so they could have Dark Surge special rule.

THE BATTLE
The battle was quite fast. Specially the first 2 turns. My enemy was waiting and shooting (standard Dwarf strategy). When I reached close combat it seemed to be very fast to finish this game but not with undeads. Check out how this works.

TURN ONE: DWARVES
Only two cannons could shoot so Marek ordered them to shoot at my catapult. Non damage was made.

TURN ONE: UNDEAD
I've ordered every unit to go on it's maximum range. Then Dark Surge was cast on my zombies, skeletons and revenants.

TURN TWO: DWARVES
More shooting! Two ironwatch units and organ gun shoot at my Zombies, destroying the unit. Cannons shoot at Mhorgoth scoring 2 wounds. Ironclad horde threw Mastiffs at my Revenants. Luckily for me, there were no hits scored. Mastiffs are really killing machines.

TURN TWO: UNDEAD
I've marched with my models again. My cavalry was now on Dwarves' right flank and my unit of Ghouls was on their left. The rest has just gone straight ahead. Dark sourge from Liches put revenats and skellies slightly ahead. Mhorgoth tried to kill dwarf king with breath attack. 3 hit's scored, but did not rout him.

TURN THREE: DWARVES
Cannons and Ironwatch regiment (with rifles) took 4 wounds on Mhorgoth. But with his 6 wounds he was just steady.

TURN THREE: UNDEAD


TURN FOUR: DWARVES
Cannons shoot at my Catapult. One hit scored. Nothing bad happened.

TURN FOUR: UNDEAD


TURN FIVE: DWARVES
Again Cannons shoot at Catapult. No hits this time.

TURN FIVE: UNDEAD


TURN SIX: DWARVES
Mhorgoth has been charged by Ironclad horde. No hits has scored! Berserker Lord charged Revenants and kill two of them, Dwarf Ironwatch regiment (the one with rifles) has charged in revenants flank making no damage.

TURN SIX: UNDEAD
Skeletons charged again at Ironguards scoring few hits (no rout) and I've charged again at Ironclad horde with my rest. I scored one hit from Revenants, one hit from Mhorgoth and four hits from cavalry! The Dwarf unit has routed! (even due they reroll)

BATTLE END: DRAW
I've scored 285pts and my enemy has scored 140pts. In Kings of War you win when difference in scored points is more than 20%. So this was a tie.

MY THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS BATTLE
The battle was nice. I wish to play on new rules with this incredible boosted revenant cavalry. Skeletons with bone rats (or are they dogs?) are really tough. I can easily imagine a horde of those guys with rats and pikes! boosted with liche king! Crushing force!

MY THOUGHTS ABOUT KINGS OF WAR
The game system is not so fast as I thought. Of course I've played on previous army lists. Now the revenant cavalry should be a crushing unit (ME has been changed from 5+ to 3+)! I'm planning to expand my Undead army soon. Hope to get more players.

When playing Undeads always remember to take lots of heroes. Undead are not so strong as Dwarfs, but you can repair your units (witch cannot be done in dwarfs), and if no need of healing, you can shoot with zap! Catapults are cool models, but are mostly useless. I'd like to see 3 catapults firing into one character. This could be nice since they have Piercing (2). Anyway that seems to be something like Warhammer Fantasy Battles 7th edition, where all cannons where aimed into Characters. Obviously, shooting with cannon or stone thrower into a single model is just ridiculous, but it's just a minor bug of those battle systems.
